LARS Fox Hunt of 29 March 2008 By Dr. Peter Rock KJ4ND a.k.a. one of the "hounds" This would be our first foxhunt this year . The weather was colder that usual , about low 40's. It was overcast too. I got to the tractor supply area just before 10AM. Leland KE4FGL and Tony KI4VMN were already there . We talked a few minutes . As 10am came we got antennas out and listened , we barely heard some signal a few times . So we drove up the road behind Wal-Mart, and I got a reading there . It was about 110 degrees. So I headed to the junction of rt. 25 and 192 bypass and got another reading there. It was about SE. I drove further down rt. 25 and took another reading . It seemed to be over at Levi Jackson State Park. I drove into the park, and the signals got stronger. I stopped near the amphitheater area, where Jim N4ICU was parked. I tried out on foot there, but had a lot of trouble finding solid readings. They varied a lot in both direction and intensity. I figured there must be 2 transmitters. Soon the other hounds got there and tried their luck too. We all had a lot of trouble. I finally decided to try something different, and drove down to the area at the bottom of the hill. When I got there, I got some really strong readings, and soon found one of the transmitters. Stan KD4ERF, came by soon, and I joked about turning off that transmitter to help me find the other transmitter (get rid of the interference)... Anyway he pointed out that the other transmitter had a different sound. So I drove over by one of the back picnic areas, and it was strong there. The other hounds were there too. We were all hunting on foot and it got strong by one of the picnic tables, and Leland found it first. So it was quite a challenging hunt ,and quite enjoyable . 73's Peter KJ4ND
